    JOB DESCRIPTION

    EMPLOYMENT ADVISER


    Main Purpose

    To provide a high volume, employment focused service to both mandatory and voluntary clients accessing the Pathways Service, to improve clients’ employability and placing them into sustainable employment.

    Position

    The post holder will report to the Area Employment Manager

    Duties


    1. To undertake work focused interviews (WFI’s)/discussion with both client groups, assess potential and provide direction, encouraging participants to apply for specific job opportunities at every stage, utilising Jobcentre Plus assessments for Mandatory clients.

    2. To manage, develop and support a caseload of clients, providing encouragement and co-ordination of activities that will ensure progression through action plans, personal development plans and reviews, including referral onto the Condition Management Programme where appropriate.

    3. To assist clients in their search for work and actively seek out and secure sustainable employment opportunities within the local job market which match clients’ skills, experience and aspirations.

    4. To pro-actively promote the service, providing appropriate advice, guidance and information to increase client flow onto the programme.

    5. To work closely with Job Matching Administrators and Key Account Consultants in the District, to maximise job opportunities for clients, and with Initial Contact Advisers with details of clients failing to attend WFI’s.

    6. To develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the local labour market, current benefits systems and entitlements, programme provision of relevant agencies and opportunities relating to employment access.

    7. To establish effective working relationships with local employers, recruitment agencies, partners, subcontractors, statutory, voluntary and private organizations, including Jobcentre Plus.

    8. To pro-actively market the service to employers and suppliers seeking occasions to develop the service, provide opportunities and create partnerships for broader service support.

    9. To promote the service by representing the team at appropriate events including jobs fairs, careers conventions, employer open days and presenting the service aims, objectives, increasing awareness and encouraging participation in the Pathways programme.

    10. To work within a quality framework ensuring that services delivered meet the standards required of the contract, ISO 9001 : 2000 and Investors in People.

    11. To maintain effective and efficient administrative procedures, producing appropriate records and as required, in compliance with Shaw Trust’s guidelines on confidentiality, polices and practices.

    12. To participate in training and undertake appropriate learning and development.

    13. To effectively work within a personal budget.



    Confidentiality
    The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about clients, staff and other Trust business. The work is of a confidential nature and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act at all times.

    Health and Safety
    Employees must comply with the provisions of ‘The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974’ and must take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions whilst at work.     Essential Criteria

    Experience:
    • Relevant previous experience in the employment/recruitment/training field.

    Skills:
    • To have the the demonstratable skills to place multiple clients into employment.
    Ability to encourage, persuade and motivate at all levels.
    • Ability to seek out, assess and develop clients.
    • Ability to seek out and develop employment opportunities and successfully match clients to jobs.
    • Ability to encourage, persuade and motivate at all levels.
    • Flexibility to cope with the varying demands of the role and achieve desired results.
    • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to manage and support a caseload and achieve targets for progression.
    • Good organisational skills.
    • Ability to work on own initiative and within a team.

    Other requirements:
    • Willingness to travel inside the designated work area and occasionally outside for meetings, training etc. with possible overnight stays.
    • Positive attitude to disability, health problems and employment problems.


    Desirable Criteria:
    • Experience working with disabled/disadvantaged young people/adults.
    • Current knowledge of welfare benefits and issues.
    • Understanding of marketing and promotion approaches.
    • Knowledge of local area.
    • IT knowledge or a willingness and aptitude to learn.
